Following the meeting of Vladimir Zinovsky with the President of the EBRD, an agreement on support of the development of SMEs in Belarus has been signed
On September 13, 2017 in the Ministry of Economy, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Zinovsky met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti within the framework of his visit to the Republic of Belarus.
During the meeting the sides summed up the results of the 25-year cooperation of the Republic of Belarus with the EBRD.
The total amount of funds provided by the Bank since the moment of registering the membership of the Republic of Belarus in the EBRD is about 2 billion euros. With the aid of the EBRD landmark investment projects have been implemented in the private sector: the Stadler and Kronospan plants have been set into operation.
In 2016 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development adopted a new Strategy for Belarus for 2016 - 2019, which lifted all kinds of restrictions on work in the public sector.
The Minister of Economy expressed his hope that within the framework of the new Strategy it will be possible to implement landmark projects in the Republic of Belarus including in the public sector. Vladimir Zinovsky noted with satisfaction that currently with the participation of the EBRD, projects in the financial sector, housing and communal services, transport infrastructure are at various stages of implementation. In particular implementation of the pilot project of public-private partnership for the reconstruction of the M-10 highway section is under preparation.
At the end of the meeting, the agreement on supporting the development of small and medium-sized businesses as the main driving force for local and regional growth in the Republic of Belarus was signed between the EU and the EBRD. On behalf of the European Union, the document was signed by the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Belarus Andrea Viktorin, from the side of the EBRD - Managing Director for the Eastern Europe and Caucasus region Francis Malige.
Minister of Economy Vladimir Zinovsky stressed the importance of signing this agreement for the Republic of Belarus, the implementation of which will help to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthen their potential, increase their contribution to the country's economic growth, create new jobs and diversify the national economy. The total amount of grant funding from the European Union is 6 million euros.
